When you use the work of others and do not cite the source, you are committing a form of academic dishonesty or misconduct..

Academic dishonesty or misconduct, and plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:

  • Claiming someone else's words, thoughts, or ideas as your own, even if you paraphrase or summarize them!
  • Copying material straight from a book, journal, newspaper, article, online discussion, Web page or other source
  • Using someone else's words, thoughts, or ideas in a presentation and not acknowledging the source
  • Using another student's paper or a paper and claiming it as your own
  • Submitting the same paper for two classes even if the paper is your own
  • Downloading or using images or music created by someone else without acknowledging the creator
  • Copying code to create a Web page or application
  • Letting a friend or classmate use your paper for their assignment
  • Having someone translate your work into English before you submit it to your instructor
  • Using a paper that you found on the Internet and submitting it as your own
  • Paying someone to write your paper
