Background:
This lesson was developed for use at Yaqan Nukiy School for a grade 3-4 class who had learned about traditional (Pre-Contact) and (Early Contact) lifestyles of the Ktunaxa People in Social Studies. The activity was specifically designed around the fur trade and the Kootenae House Trading Post that was established in 1807 near present-day Windermere.
Rationale:
To provide a hands-on activity to consolidate information learned about the Canadian fur trade and how it affected the culture of the Ktunaxa people.
The Library has two kits available for students to borrow, please see the staff at the service/circulation desk.
