Level 1: Beginning
This level is perfect for the student who is new to learning the English language with little previous English training and a very limited vocabulary.
This student might often be lost in the classroom where English is spoken too quickly or unknown words are used. The student has no knowledge of English beyond answers to simple questions like “What’s your name?” He/she may respond with “yes” or “no,” but not always consistently or correctly. He/she may not be able to write in Western script and lacks sufficient vocabulary/oral comprehension to be able to follow directions or do simple classroom assignments.
If you are beginning to learn the English language and wish to develop more vocabulary, start with Level 1 readers.
